Company Info

After several years trying to establish themselves in a British market that was being stymied by political inertia, Lantmännen Group, a Swedish co-operative made up of 52,000 farmers with multinational business interests and 500,000 tonnes a year of pellet-production capacity, sold their UK interests in December 2010.

Renewable Fuels Ltd, Lantmännen's British subsidiary, was engaged in a number of aspects of the production and supply of biomass fuel. These included the production of energy crops, such as Short-Rotation Coppiced (SRC) willow, the import and supply of wood pellets and briquettes (known as "heat logs") and the supply of forestry, sawmill and olive residues for co-firing in coal-fired power stations and for other commercial and domestic applications.

Lantmännen sold Renewable Fuels Ltd to Coppice Resources Ltd (CRL), the leading British producer of SRC wood products, in December 2010. CRL were partners with Forever Fuels Ltd, the leading British quality wood pellet supplier, through their cooperation at Sutton-cum-Lound, near Retford, Notts. Forever Fuels were already leading the consolidation of the wood-pellet supply sector, through their investment in regional depots and the largest fleet of specialist, pneumatic wood-pellet delivery vehicles, and through strategic acquisitions such as the bulk pellet-supply business of Ecowood Fuels.

Forever Fuels were therefore a natural partner for CRL for the acquisition of the wood-pellet parts of Renewable Fuels Ltd. Forever Fuels took on from CRL the wood-pellet supply activities of Lantmännen's British interests. Diane Stafford, who had been running Renewable Fuels Ltd, formed a new company (Renewable Wood Fuels Ltd, Tel: 01904 767760, Fax: 01904 500760) to continue marketing Lantmännen's Agrol products in the UK, primarily their Heat Logs. And CRL retained Renewable Fuels Ltd's British SRC and other activities.

Renewable Fuels Ltd had established woodpelletsupplies.com as the e-commerce website for their wood pellets and heat logs. This website had achieved good visibility in the sector and a decent ranking on the search engines. But Forever Fuels already had a commercial site with good public visibility, and an e-commerce site under development. But there was no specialist information site for wood pellets in the UK. A search for wood pellets would yield either commercial sites, or information sites with a broader focus on all types of biomass and sometimes other renewables. Forever Fuels therefore decided to make the most of the well-ranked domain that they had acquired with the pellet part of Lantmännen's business, to establish an Information Resource focused exclusively on Wood Pellets.

Because of the ideosyncracies of the search engines, it is not advisable simply to remove pages from a website and expect it not to adversely affect the search-engine ranking. So the pages of the old site have been retained under a Wood Pellet Supplies branch (and edited modestly to make sense under the new arrangements). And while we build up our own information pages, we link to some of the extensive information on Forever Fuels' website (e.g. regional information).

But the intention is for this site (outside the Wood Pellet Supplies branch) to develop as a non-commercial, information resource for people interested in wood pellets. We will provide pages of information on various aspects relating to wood pellets, and we have also provided a wood-pellet forum for discussion of views and experiences on wood pellets, their production, their uses, and the issues surrounding them. We hope you find the site useful.
